Scalable Capital is tax-native in Austria

Scalable Capital is now active with its own branch in Austria. New clients receive an Austrian IBAN directly upon account opening and invest fully tax-native. This means you will benefit from automated tax withholding. If you are already a client, you will soon receive information via email regarding the transition to the Austrian branch. The initial activation is offered to clients who opened their account as Italian residents. Not included at this stage: clients who opened from abroad and later moved to Italy, clients with an active Scalable Credit facility, and Scalable Wealth clients. We are working to make it available to you too and will write to you.

No, however, you will soon be able to benefit from automated tax withholding. Currently, this is not yet possible. We will notify you by email as soon as switching to the Austrian branch becomes available to you. Following a successful switch, Scalable will automatically calculate and withhold taxes on your capital gains and distributions. This setup is referred to as "tax-native" (steuereinfach).

For the period prior to the switch to the Austrian branch, you must continue to declare foreign capital gains in your annual tax return. For this timeframe, we plan to provide you with the KPMG tax report as usual. We will notify you by email as soon as the switch becomes available to you. Once the transition to the Austrian branch is complete, tax calculation and withholding will occur automatically in accordance with Austrian law ("tax-native" / steuereinfach).

If you opened your account after 08.10.2026, no action is required – you are already enjoying the benefits of the Austrian branch. If you opened your account before 08.10.2026, 2026, we will notify you as soon as a switch to our Austrian branch is possible. Currently, no action is required on your part.1

Unfortunately, no. We are working flat out to enable all existing clients to switch to our Austrian branch. As soon as this becomes available to you, we will notify you by email.

Following the launch of the Austrian branch, new account products (such as the interest account) are temporarily available only to new clients. Following the portfolio transfer to our branch, you will be able to open an interest account.

1 Please report the securities account transfer after it has been completed either by yourself or through a tax advisor, if applicable. A securities account transfer may, under certain circumstances, be treated as a deemed sale under Austrian tax law if it is not reported properly or in due time. This could result in a 27.5% capital gains tax on unrealised profits. Scalable Capital can arrange for the appropriate reports to be generated and made available in your mailbox. Scalable Capital does not provide legal and/or tax advice.
